From Lourenço Marques—now Maputo—came a forward whose pace and power transformed Benfica and Portugal.

Eusébio joined Benfica in the early 1960s and immediately brought direct running and ferocious shooting to a club already among Europe’s best.

His two goals in the 1962 European Cup final and nine at the 1966 World Cup defined a player who could carry attacks while remaining admired for his respect toward opponents.
