Moscow’s factory districts shaped a keeper whose athletic courage was matched by tactical imagination.

Yashin spent his full senior club career with Dynamo Moscow and became the Soviet Union’s unmistakable goalkeeper in four World Cup squads.

He left his line to claim crosses, organised loudly, and launched attacks quickly. The 1963 Ballon d’Or remains unique for a men’s goalkeeper.

THAN THE LINE.

Yashin made the goalkeeper an organiser, sweeper, and first attacker. Modern proactive keeping still follows the territory he claimed.
