Gordie Howe connected eras through a professional career that combined scoring, strength and exceptional longevity.

Detroit welcomed an eighteen-year-old Howe in 1946. With Sid Abel and Ted Lindsay, he became part of the Production Line, helping build a championship team and a standard of consistency that lasted far beyond a single dynasty.

Retirement did not immediately end his playing story. He returned in the World Hockey Association to play alongside his sons, then completed a final NHL season with Hartford in 1979–80, still contributing at an age rarely seen in professional hockey.
