Origin
and identity
Martin Brodeur gave New Jersey championship goaltending and a remarkable foundation of consistency across two decades.
Brodeur joined the Devils full-time in 1993–94 and immediately won the Calder Trophy. A year later, New Jersey's first Stanley Cup established the young goaltender as an essential part of a championship system.
The partnership endured through two more Cups and repeated individual honours. His completed career totals illustrate the workload as clearly as the victories: 1,266 regular-season appearances, 691 wins and 125 shutouts before retirement in 2015.
