Origin
and identity

Mikko Rantanen combined high-end scoring with championship production during Colorado's return to the top of the NHL.

Colorado selected Rantanen tenth in the 2015 draft. After a brief first NHL season, his production grew to 84 points in 2017–18 and 87 the following year. Those campaigns established the Finnish winger as a substantial part of the Avalanche's attacking identity.

The 2022 championship run added 25 playoff points to his record, including 20 assists. Rantanen then scored 55 goals in 2022–23 and exceeded 100 points again in 2023–24. His profile therefore balances the finisher and the creator, with evidence from both regular-season and playoff hockey.
