Origin
and identity
Pavel Datsyuk made inventive puck skills and elite defensive work complementary parts of the same game.
Datsyuk arrived in Detroit in 2001 and immediately joined a Stanley Cup-winning team. His later career established an individual identity built on possession, deception and the ability to recover the puck as effectively as he could create with it.
Three Selke Trophies and four Lady Byng Trophies reflected different aspects of that influence. A second Detroit championship was followed by major international success, including world and Olympic titles that completed the Triple Gold Club.
