Origin
and identity
Victor Hedman linked Tampa Bay's attack and defense through a period of sustained championship ambition.
Hedman's development began with the second overall selection in 2009. The Swedish defenseman gradually built a substantial offensive record from the blue line, reaching 72 points in 2016–17 before receiving the Norris Trophy the following season. His progression rewarded patience as well as talent.
The 2020 playoffs supplied his signature individual honor. Ten goals and 22 points helped the Lightning win the Stanley Cup and earned him the Conn Smythe Trophy. He added another championship in 2021 and an 85-point regular season in 2021–22.
