Origin
and identity

Monica De Gennaro made elite defence and reception central to Italy's Olympic champions and Conegliano's international club success.

De Gennaro's libero work gives setters a better starting point and keeps apparently finished rallies alive. That role made her an important figure in Conegliano's rise to European and world club titles.

At Paris 2024 she won Olympic gold and the best-libero award. A year later she was again selected as best libero when Italy won the World Championship, continuing a career defined by first contacts rather than final swings.
